DRAMATIC REACTION: A THEATRICAL LAMPOON

A Theatrical Lampoon

NOW AVAILABLE THROUGH AUSTRALIAN PLAYS

Writer’s Note

I have been working in the theatre industry for over two decades now – originally as a stage technician and manager, and over the last ten years as a director and now a writer. There is not much, good or bad, I haven’t seen happen or had happen.

In 2016 I undertook the Masters in Writing for Performance at VCA and Dramatic Reaction: A Theatrical Lampoon is the culmination of both that experience and my long and colourful career. Riffing off the satiric stylings of Moliere, this play takes Aristotles teaching in The Poetics and looks at how they work in an era when theatre making is a mash up of tradition, collaboration, reality TV and a relentless news cycle which never ends.

What used to take place behind closed doors is now in the spotlight. After watching this crazy team create magic you will find yourself wondering how theatre ever makes it to the public. It does, of course, but Dramatic Reaction will leave you none the wiser but you will split your seams with laughter as you discover just how impossible the process is.
